Why did Radisson split?

To adhere to U.S. privacy regulations, the company was required to separate into two companies to protect consumer information. The regulations required Radisson to have separate websites, social media channels, apps and loyalty programs, which led to the split into two Radisson programs.

The Radisson Hotel Group underwent a major strategic split in August 2022 when its Americas division was sold to Choice Hotels International for approximately $675 million. This transaction effectively divided the company into two separate entities: Radisson Hotel Group (RHG), which operates across Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC), and the Americas portfolio, which now operates under the Choice Hotels umbrella. The split was primarily driven by the need for the former parent company (Jin Jiang International) to streamline global operations and comply with data security regulations, particularly in the United States. Following the acquisition, Choice Hotels has integrated the Radisson brands in North and South America into its own loyalty program and booking systems, while RHG continues to grow independently in international markets, maintaining the brand heritage while operating under a completely distinct corporate structure.
