Why did they get rid of the Tower of Terror at Dreamworld?

The park cited focusing our investment on the future and delivering new, world-class attractions for you to enjoy as the reason for closing the attraction, along with initial details regarding a multi-million dollar expansion to the park.

Dreamworld Australia retired the Tower of Terror II on November 3, 2019, primarily to make room for the park's "future development and expansion." At the time, the ride was over 20 years old and required significant, costly maintenance to operate its massive 600-metric-ton steel structure and electromagnetic launch system. By removing the coaster, the park was able to focus its investment on newer, world-class attractions, such as the multi-launch Steel Taipan coaster. Interestingly, the iconic 115-meter tower structure was not demolished entirely; it remained in place to continue supporting the Giant Drop free-fall ride, which remains one of the park’s most popular thrill attractions, while the horizontal coaster track was slowly dismantled over time.
