Why do I always get sunburned at the beach?

A trip to the beach can also increase your risk of summertime sunburn because both sand and water reflect the sun back at you, per the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, increasing your UV load. (That's why you're also at risk of a sunburn when vacationing in snowy destinations — snow is reflective, too.)

People Also Ask

People generally tend to tan more near beaches, as they are typically in closer proximity to the sun and may spend more time outdoors in the sun. The reflection of sunlight off the water can also increase the amount of UV radiation that a person is exposed to.
