Why do some BA flights go from t3?

Historically, Terminal 3 flights have been those with the fewest connecting passengers to minimise the number of people who need to be shuttled to or from Terminal 5. Some routes also went to Terminal 3 if they were very popular with US tourists connecting from American Airlines.
