Why does Disney not allow loose ice?

In an effort to streamline the bag check process, loose ice in coolers is not permitted. Small bags of ice or reusable ice packs are acceptable. This restriction only applies when entering a Theme Park or Water Park. Your cooler with ice is fine in your car or at your Disney Resort Hotel.
