History. Settlement of the region by Europeans officially began around 1742 but may have begun as early as 1710. The name of the area was changed to Hyde Park around 1810. Previously, it was part of the Fauconnier Patent and was named Stoutenburgh, after the town's first settler, Jacobus Stoughtenburg.
Tour professional Billy Maxwell purchased Hyde Park in 1971. Today, Hyde Park is owned by Billy's daughter and husband, Melanie and Tommy Bevill, who have worked since 2016 to bring the course back to it's former glory days.
Hyde Park covers 142 hectares (350 acres), making it the largest park in central London. It is the city's most important green lung and where many tourists and residents come to relax and enjoy a bit of fresh air.
