Why is it called White City in London?

We learned that White City is named after a big exhibition which took place here in 1908. It celebrated a new alliance between France and Britain, the 'Entente Cordiale'. The grand pavilions were painted white or decorated in white marble making it 'The Great White City'.

White City was started by developers Ken White and Cannon Papanicholas in 1955. Ken White named White City and it became listed as a census-designated place by the US Census Bureau. The first homes were built along Galena Drive in 1957. The majority of White city was built in the fifties and sixties.
