Southwest Airlines adopted its iconic "Canyon Blue" livery in 2001 as part of its first major brand refresh to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Before this, the planes were "Desert Gold," "Warm Red," and "Orange." The move to blue was intended to modernize the airline's image while paying homage to the landscapes of the American Southwest—the "Canyon Blue" represents the vast skies and deep colors of the Grand Canyon. In 2014, they introduced the "Heart" livery, which used a more vibrant "Bold Blue" as the primary color. Blue was chosen because it is traditionally associated with trust, reliability, and the sky. Additionally, Southwest uses blue as a backdrop for its "Heart" logo, which symbolizes the airline's focus on hospitality and its culture of "LUV" (the airline's original stock ticker symbol).
