Why is the sea so cold in Marbella?

There can be a surprising 'cold drop' in the sea temperatures due to a sudden upwelling of colder water from just off the coast - this happens along the coast from Málaga city to Marbella, it's partially due to the wider currents in the Alboran Sea.
