Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm experienced a massive, multi-year closure that spanned from early 2022 through most of 2023 due to a combination of mechanical failures and global supply chain delays. Specifically, a critical part of the high-speed hydraulic launch system broke in March 2022. Because the ride was manufactured by the Swiss company Intamin and utilized specialized, older-generation hydraulic components, obtaining the necessary replacement parts proved difficult during the post-pandemic shipping crisis. After a new coat of paint and initial repairs, the ride suffered further setbacks during testing in September 2023 when another mechanical "dark" period occurred. Fortunately for thrill-seekers, the park finally resolved these complex engineering hurdles, and Xcelerator officially reopened on November 7, 2023, much to the relief of fans who had waited over 600 days to ride. In 2026, the coaster continues to operate, though it remains a "high-maintenance" attraction due to the immense physical stress of its 0-to-82 mph launch.
