Disney parks generally remain open during rain, but the closure of specific rides depends on the severity of the weather and the ride's design. Indoor attractions, such as "it's a small world" or Space Mountain, almost never close for rain unless there is a mechanical issue or flooding. However, outdoor attractions—including roller coasters like Big Thunder Mountain or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train—will often close if there is heavy rain that affects the braking systems or visibility. The most critical factor is lightning; if lightning is detected within a certain radius (typically 6 to 10 miles) of the park, all outdoor attractions, pools, and even some outdoor transportation like the Disney Skyliner will close immediately for guest and Cast Member safety. These attractions will stay closed until the lightning has cleared the area for a set amount of time (usually 30 minutes). While rain might thin out the crowds, it is always wise to have a "rainy day" plan that focuses on the many indoor shows and dark rides available at the parks.
