Will I get wet at Victoria Falls?

High-water season is from about February to July – expect the most spectacular views of the Falls and prepare to get a little wet. Low-water season is from about August to January – this is the best time for activities like white-water rafting and swimming in Devil's Pool.

You should plan on getting very wet when visiting Victoria Falls, particularly if you are visiting during the high-water season between March and May 2026. As the Zambezi River reaches its peak flow, the sheer volume of water plunging into the gorge creates a massive cloud of spray and mist that can rise hundreds of meters into the air. This spray falls back down as "rain," specifically in the Victoria Falls Rainforest on the Zimbabwean side, where the moisture is so constant that it supports a lush, unique ecosystem. Even if you stay on the designated paths, the wind can shift the mist toward you instantly, soaking you to the bone in seconds. Most visitors wear ponchos or raincoats, and it is vital to bring waterproof protection (like dry bags or plastic sleeves) for your camera, phone, and passport. During the dry season (October to December), you will stay much drier, but the "Smoke that Thunders" is far less dramatic.
