Will Japan snow in November?

In Aomori, Akita, and Iwate, snow begins to fall around mid-November, while in Yamagata, Miyagi, and Fukushima, it will start snowing in late November.

Whether it snows in Japan during November depends entirely on where you are visiting. In the northernmost island of Hokkaido, snow is very common in November, and the city of Sapporo often sees its first significant accumulation by the middle of the month. Similarly, high-altitude regions of the Japanese Alps (like Nagano and Hakuba) usually receive a light dusting of "early season" snow by late November, though it is rarely enough for full-scale skiing. In contrast, major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka are still in the peak of their autumn foliage season in November; the weather is crisp and cool, but actual snow in these central areas is extremely rare until at least January. If you are chasing a "winter wonderland" vibe in November, your best bet is to head to the northern tip of Honshu or across to Hokkaido, where the transition from autumn to winter happens much more rapidly than in the temperate southern regions.
