Will Orlando free fall reopen?

Former Attractions The Orlando Free Fall: a 430 foot (131m) tall, free-standing drop tower. Permanently closed in 2022 following an accident resulting in the death of a 14-year-old rider. The structure was dismantled in March 2023.

As of early 2026, the Orlando Free Fall ride at ICON Park remains permanently closed and has been dismantled. The decision to decommission the 430-foot drop tower was made following the tragic death of 14-year-old Tyre Sampson in March 2022. The ride's owner, Orlando Slingshot, reached an agreement with the Sampson family and local authorities to remove the structure entirely, which was completed in early 2023. There are currently no plans to rebuild or reopen the ride at that location or elsewhere under the same management. The site where the tower once stood has been integrated into other developments at ICON Park. The tragedy led to the passing of "The Tyre Sampson Act" in Florida, which significantly tightened safety regulations and inspection requirements for high-thrill amusement rides across the state. While ICON Park continues to operate other attractions, the footprint of the Free Fall serves as a somber reminder of the incident, and the industry has moved toward more rigorous restraint sensor technology as a direct result.
