Are MagicBands worth it in 2023?

It's not entirely necessary. Although MagicBands can make your park experience a touch (or tap) easier and can provide some unique experiences, you can function just fine in the park without one. You can still enter the park by scanning a physical ticket or using your Disney app on a mobile phone, for example.

MagicBand+, on the other hand, was introduced in 2022 and is sold side by side with the MagicBand 2 rather than replacing it. While it does feel as though MagicBand 2 will be phased out soon, they are currently still available for purchase on shopDisney.com.

It is perfectly acceptable to reuse an old MagicBand on your next trip. The official word from Walt Disney World is that the battery life of a band is expected to be about 2 years. However, I personally have older ones that are still going strong! So, bring your MagicBands and try it!

I am happy to tell you that MagicBands are absolutely waterproof! We wear ours to the pool, to the Disney Water Parks, on attractions where you get wet and in the Florida rain. There is no need to worry about keeping them covered or dry as they can be completely submerged without any damage.

Does my toddler need a MagicBand? If your toddler is under three they do not need a ticket and therefore do not need a MagicBand. Children 3 and over will need tickets, park reservations and their own LL/Genie+ reservations, so a MagicBand would be useful, but is not necessary. See below for other options.

REUSE THEM If you've customized one of your bands or grown partial to a special edition band you purchased, you can reuse a band from a previous trip. Generally, the battery life of MagicBands is between 2-5 years, though the MagicBand+ may last longer because they are rechargeable.

You can check the battery status of your MagicBand+ through the My Disney Experience App or by the colors displayed on the MagicBand+ (you press the button on the back of the band, and it will light up a color to give you the current battery status).
