Alternatively, you can avoid climbing by veering on the main road, but it will take you double the time. You will probably be a little sore after walking around Positano for a day or two.

Amalfi does have several luxury accommodations for those seeking a pampered stay but the selection is much greater in Positano. As for the cost of food, restaurants in Positano are more expensive. We also found more street food in Amalfi than in Positano that helped keep our trip costs down.

When are shops open? Shops (excluding grocery stores) usually open at 10:00 am and close at 1:30 pm for morning hours, then open again at 4:30 pm and remain open until 8:00 pm for the afternoon and evening. In the summer, many remain open until 10:00 pm.

Yes. You can choose the pay side of the beach and have a deck chair and umbrella or you could do what we did and swim on the 'free' side of the beach. No sand to speak of lots of pebbles so if you are not used to walking on pebbles/rocks wear beach shoes into the water.
