Are there many Ubers in Byron Bay?

We took a Uber from the Ballina airport to our hotel, but our Uber driver told us that there are not many Ubers in Byron so you might have to wait a while for one (we waited about 25 minutes). There is also a bus that goes to the center of Byron from the airport.

Byron Bay has a decent presence of Uber drivers, but the availability is significantly lower than in major metropolitan hubs like Sydney or Melbourne. During peak tourist seasons, weekends, and major events like Splendour in the Grass or the Byron Bay Bluesfest, you will find a fair number of drivers on the road. However, during mid-week periods or late at night, wait times can be substantial, often ranging from 15 to 30 minutes, or you may find that no cars are available at all. The local government and community have a complex relationship with ridesharing, and traditional taxi companies like Byron Bay Taxis remain a very strong competitor, often being more reliable for airport transfers to Ballina (BNK) or Gold Coast (OOL). Many locals and visitors also rely on private shuttle services or the "Xpress" buses for longer distances. If you are planning a late-night trip or have a tight schedule for a flight, it is highly recommended to have a backup plan or to pre-book a private transfer, as the "on-demand" nature of Uber in this regional beach town can be unpredictable compared to the seamless experience of a large city.
