Standard hot air balloons do not have toilets on board due to the severe weight and space constraints of the wicker basket. A typical flight lasts about one hour, while the entire experience, including setup and pack-down, usually spans three to four hours. Because there are no facilities in the air, pilots strongly advise passengers to use the restroom before arriving at the launch site. Most reputable ballooning companies provide access to facilities at their meeting points or scheduled "technical stops" during the pre-flight briefing. In the rare case of an emergency while aloft, the pilot can sometimes perform an early landing, but since the balloon travels with the wind, they cannot easily "return" to a specific point with a restroom. For high-end, long-distance specialized balloon expeditions that span several days, custom-built pressurized capsules might include a rudimentary chemical toilet, but for the vast majority of commercial and recreational flights, you are effectively "holding it" until you touch back down on solid ground.
