As a general rule, Delta eCredits are non-transferable and must be used by the passenger whose name was on the original ticket. When a flight is canceled or a ticket is changed, the resulting credit is tied to the SkyMiles account or the specific name and ticket number of the original traveler. You cannot simply "give" your credit to a friend or family member to book their own flight. However, there is a small loophole: if you used your own credit card to buy a ticket for someone else and that flight was canceled, the eCredit is usually issued to the passenger, not the person who paid. To avoid this, you would need to use Delta's "Gift Card" system for future flexibility. The only major exception to the non-transferable rule occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when certain vouchers were issued with more flexible terms, but those have largely expired. Currently, the best way to "use" a credit for someone else is to book a trip where you are one of the travelers, or to contact Delta's customer service if there are extreme extenuating circumstances, though they are notoriously strict about this policy.
