You can absolutely skip Jungfraujoch, the "Top of Europe," and many seasoned travelers in 2026 actually recommend doing so if the weather is poor or if you are on a budget. While it offers a spectacular high-alpine experience and views of the Aletsch Glacier, it is the most expensive excursion in the region (costing over $200 without a pass) and is highly weather-dependent. If it’s cloudy, you’ll pay a premium for a view of white fog. Excellent alternatives include Schilthorn, which offers a superior 360-degree panoramic view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau trio for a lower price, or Männlichen, which provides incredible hiking trails and a "royal" view of the valley without the thin air and massive crowds. If you prefer a more "local" and rugged mountain experience, exploring the Lauterbrunnen Valley floor or hiking to the Bachalpsee above Grindelwald can be just as rewarding as the train ride to the Jungfraujoch summit, often with significantly less stress on your wallet and your itinerary.
