Yes, but with important restrictions.

Your English National Concessionary Travel Scheme bus pass (the one for people aged 66 and over, or with a qualifying disability) is valid for free off-peak travel on all local buses anywhere in England.

In London, this means:

What you CAN do:

  • Travel for free on London buses (the red double-deckers and single-deckers).
  • Use it at any time, including peak hours. This is a special exception for London. In most other parts of England, the pass is only valid after 9:30 am on weekdays.
  • Use it on the London Trams.
  • Use it on Transport for London (TfL) services that accept bus passes.

What you CANNOT do:

  • Use it on the London Underground (Tube), Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Overground, Elizabeth line, or National Rail services. Your bus pass does not provide any discount or free travel on these rail-based services in London.
  • Use it on tourist buses, river services, or coach services (like National Express).

How to Use It in London:

Simply touch your pass flat on the yellow card reader next to the driver when you board a bus. You do not need to touch out when you get off. For trams, touch in at the platform validator.

If you are a resident of a London borough, you would have a Freedom Pass instead. This is much more powerful and does give you free travel on
