Can I use my 60+ Oyster card to Gatwick Airport?

You can use it on Southern and South Western trains to and from anywhere in London. It is not valid beyond Gatwick, and there are no readers at the stations for you to touch on or off with.

Yes, you can use your 60+ London Oyster Photocard to travel to Gatwick Airport, but with important restrictions.

The key point is that your 60+ Oyster card provides free travel on Transport for London (TfL) services only. The journey to Gatwick involves travelling outside the TfL zones on National Rail services.

Here’s how it works:

1. To Gatwick via Thameslink (The Direct, Free Route)

  • Route: You can travel for free on Thameslink trains from any London Thameslink station (like St Pancras International, London Bridge, Blackfriars, or Farringdon) directly to Gatwick Airport.
  • Why it’s free: Thameslink is part of the TfL “Freedom Pass” area for this specific route, and your 60+ Oyster card has the same validity as an off-peak Freedom Pass.
  • Important Condition: This free travel is valid only after 9:00 AM on weekdays and anytime on weekends and public holidays. You cannot use it for free during morning peak hours on weekdays (before 9:00 AM).

2. To Gatwick via Other Rail Operators (NOT Free)

  • If you take a Southern, Gatwick Express, or South Western Railway service to Gatwick, your 60+ Oyster card does not cover the fare.
  • You would need to buy a separate ticket for the entire journey to Gatwick from your starting station.

3. Using the London Underground/Buses to Connect

  • You can use your 60+ O
