Can I visit the monuments in DC at night?

The Washington Monument is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (last tour time is 4:30). National Mall and Memorial Parks other sites are open 24 hours a day. The early evening and morning hours are beautiful and tranquil times to visit.

Visiting the monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C., at night is not only possible but is widely considered the best way to experience them. Most major sites, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are beautifully illuminated after sunset, creating a somber and majestic atmosphere that is much more impactful than during the crowded daylight hours. National Park Service rangers are typically on duty at the major sites until 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM to answer questions and provide historical context. One of the greatest benefits of a nighttime visit is the significant reduction in crowds and the relief from the intense humidity of D.C. summers. While the monuments themselves are open, be aware that nearby visitor centers or gift shops usually close in the evening. Walking between the memorials on the National Mall is safe and well-lit, though many visitors prefer to use the "DC Circulator" bus or a guided night tour to see all the major landmarks in a single evening under the moonlight.

Beyond that, it's just luck.
