Can you access Zermatt by car?

Zermatt is car-free. Access by private car is only permitted to Täsch. From Täsch, one continues to Zermatt by train or by taxi or limousine service.

If you are traveling by car, you must drive as far as the nearby village of Täsch, which is approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) away. In Täsch, you will find massive parking facilities, such as the Matterhorn Terminal, where you must leave your vehicle. From the terminal, you take a shuttle train (the Zermatt Shuttle) that runs every 20 minutes and takes about 12 minutes to reach the heart of Zermatt. Alternatively, you can take a private taxi or limousine service from Täsch that has a special permit to drive to the entrance of Zermatt. Once inside the village, transportation is limited to small electric taxis, electric buses, horse-drawn carriages, or simply walking, giving the town its famously quiet and charming atmosphere.
