Can you bring backpacks on rides at Universal Studios Hollywood?

Are bags and other personal items allowed on rides and attractions? Some of our rides and attractions can accommodate personal items. However, we strongly suggest bringing small bags with you to better expedite your time at the Front Gate security checkpoint and at each attraction.

At Universal Studios Hollywood, the policy regarding backpacks varies significantly depending on the specific attraction you are visiting. Unlike some other theme parks, Universal has strict safety requirements for its high-intensity thrills. For many of the major rides, such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride, you are strictly prohibited from bringing any loose items, including backpacks, purses, or even large cameras, onto the ride vehicle. To accommodate this, Universal provides complimentary lockers near the entrance of these specific attractions for the duration of your ride. However, for "tamer" attractions or shows, such as the World-Famous Studio Tour, WaterWorld, or Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, you are generally allowed to bring your backpack with you and stow it at your feet. It is always best to check the signage at the entrance of each queue. If you have a very large bag, be aware that it must pass through a security X-ray or manual inspection at the front gate, and items that are excessively bulky may be difficult to fit into the standard-sized free lockers provided at the thrill rides.
