For example, if you have the “Los Angeles to New York” destination card, you can earn 21 points by connecting them with a continuous path.

The routes score points by themselves, as mentioned above, but routes not connected to a player's destination do not help them reach the destination or complete their destination ticket. The key to the game is getting the routes connected.
When a route is claimed, the player places one of his plastic trains in each of the spaces of the route.All the cards in the set used to claim the route are then discarded. A player may claim any open route on the board. He is never required to connect to any of his previously played routes.
The longest route includes all the red trains (50 trains) and does not include all the blue trains of the smaller routes branching off. If you miss your connecting trainThis means you'll usually be permitted to travel on the next available train free of charge if your first train is delayed. They do not entitle you to a full refund of your order. You may need to show your tickets on later services as evidence of the delay.
If you're delayed and arrive at your destination more than half an hour late, you'll usually be able to get some money back. Some train companies will also give you compensation if your train is more than 15 minutes late. You need to keep your train tickets to get a refund.
Advance train tickets aren't flexible, so you must catch the train specified on your ticket. If you catch an earlier train, you may have to pay additional fees, so please check with ticket staff at the station.
Tickets that have been purchased with an “any available route” option can be used with any train company that operates between the stations you wish to travel. Any time tickets are the most flexible and can be used on any train on the chosen day of departure for the journey you have booked.
