You can certainly "do" Cinque Terre in 2 days, as the region is quite compact. A 48-hour itinerary allows you enough time to visit all five villages—Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. On Day 1, you can use the Cinque Terre Express train to hop between the southern three villages, enjoying the iconic sunset views in Manarola. On Day 2, you can hike a portion of the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) between Vernazza and Monterosso to see the coast from above, followed by a boat tour to see the colorful houses from the water. While 2 days is enough to see the highlights, it is a fast-paced trip. To truly "soak it in" and enjoy long dinners or hidden swimming coves without the mid-day cruise ship crowds, a 3-day stay is often recommended, but 2 days is the standard for most travelers combining the coast with a larger Italy tour.
