Eating on German TrainsWell, German trains have that covered, too, but you don't have to stop and you're still moving faster than by car. All ICE trains have a restaurant wagon where you can sit down and receive table service. It's not a Michelin-starred restaurant, but you can eat plenty well on the train.
It's not rude. But no one wants to hear your conversation so if it's going to be loud then defer it. I think a quick and quiet 'Hi, sorry I'm on the train at the moment, I'll give you a call back' is perfectly acceptable. All phone calls are acceptable, just don't tell the whole carriage.
If you're going on a long train journey, you may want to choose a sleeper car option so you'll have more privacy and will arrive more refreshed at your destination. For shorter journeys, make sure to stay aware of your surroundings. If you don't feel safe falling asleep, then don't attempt it.
Some trains require seat reservations, and on other trains it's optional. If you're riding a train on which reservations are only recommended or completely optional and you don't have a reservation, you can sit in any available seat in the appropriate class you have booked.

Starting from September 30, 2023 Trenitalia will slowly introduce a mandatory CHECK IN policy for Regional Train ticket holders. As a result, any regional train tickets specifying NOT VALID TO TRAVEL will require a CHECK IN to be performed which would be a process to validate the tickets for usage.
Like I mentioned above, Italo is usually cheaper than Trenitalia but because the cabins on lower-class tickets aren't the most comfortable, I'll usually consider Italo only for trains that are less than 2 or 3 hours long unless the Comfort ticket class is cheaper than Trenitalia.
