Can you go back and forth with Interrail?

The Interrail Global Pass allows up to 2 journeys in your home country: 1 to leave and 1 to return, with multiple train transfers included. You can travel on one travel day to leave your country of residence (outbound) and on one travel day to return (inbound).

With an Interrail Global Pass, you have incredible flexibility to go "back and forth" between different countries as many times as you like within the validity period of your pass. If you have a Continuous Pass, you can travel every single day. If you have a Flexi Pass (e.g., 7 days in 1 month), you can travel as much as you want on each selected "travel day." However, there is a major restriction regarding your country of residence: you are generally only allowed one outbound journey to leave your home country and one inbound journey to return. In 2026, some mobile pass pilots have expanded this to allow more flexibility for residents, but the standard rule remains that once you have used your inbound journey to return home, you cannot use the pass to leave again without buying a separate ticket to the border. Once outside your home country, you can crisscross borders between the 33 participating European nations as frequently as the train schedules allow.
