Can you hike Sólheimajökull Glacier without a guide?

Under no circumstance should anyone attempt to walk Solheimajokull glacier without a guide. As previously stated, this ice cap is melting. Due to the melting nature of the ice, glacier conditions can be dangerous. Glaciers can break, or calve, completely without warning.

For jeep and snowmobile trips, Langjökull is the most popular glacier in Iceland, and skiing and hiking here is possible as well. Langjökull is only one hour drive from Reykjavik so you can rent a cheap car and drive there yourself for snowmobile tours for example.
