Can you just do half of the Road to Hana?

No problem. Folks who are short on time can drive small portions of the Road to Hana if they prefer. Driving to Twin Falls or to the Rainbow Eucalyptus stand, passing a couple of nice sights and waterfalls can be just enough of the Road to Hana for some visitors.

The road has over 600 turns and many stops. If you were to drive straight from Ka'anapali to Hana without any stops, you could make the journey in two hours and 40 minutes. With stops, expect that you'll spend six hours getting to Hana. You likely won't stop on your way back, so the return trip should take three hours.

The views and black sand beach were worth it along the way. I probably wouldn't do it again, though. It was a one-and-done thing. All in all, the trip took us about 3hrs there and half the time on the way back with no stops (and driving probably a bit too fast).

The roads can get a little dicey, especially if you're starting from the Seven Sacred Pools. The highway can get extremely narrow, bumpy, and turn into a one-lane road. Not to mention the local goats that have free reign. These little guys can surprise you if you're not careful.

Q: Is the Road to Hana paved? It is all paved but on the back side of Haleakala the pavement is very bumpy and seems to be nonexistent in some spots due to earthquakes that happened in the past in this area.
