Can you still swim with the sharks at Typhoon Lagoon?

Shark Reef closed for good on Oct. 3, 2016.

No, you can no longer swim with the sharks at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. The attraction, known as Shark Reef, officially closed permanently on October 3, 2016. It previously allowed guests to snorkel across a saltwater tank filled with leopard sharks, bonnethead sharks, stingrays, and schools of tropical fish. Disney cited high maintenance costs and a desire to utilize the space for new guest experiences as reasons for the closure. Today, the area has been repurposed into extra seating and pathways, though guests can still find plenty of water-based thrills nearby at the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster or the Miss Adventure Falls family raft ride. For those still looking for a shark encounter at Walt Disney World in 2026, the EPCOT Seas Adventures – Aqua Tour or DiveQuest at the Living Seas pavilion remains the best alternative for getting up close with marine life.
