Can you take pets on Eurostar?

There are a number of considerations and implications for transporting pets and in the interests of the comfort and safety of our customers, crews and animals we don't accept any pets on our services. Eurostar is not registered as a carrier of pets and therefore, we're unfortunately unable to make any exceptions.

Any dog or cat traveling within the European Union must be identified by means of an electronic microchip. Your pet must alos have a European passport. Provided and completed by an authorized veterinarian, this passport allows the identification of your animal and certifies that it has been duly vaccinated.

Your pet will travel in the cabin if: They are below the maximum weight permitted by the airline. The average maximum weight is 8kg (including cage/carrier). Their carrier is generally no larger than 115 cm (L+W+H). Cage/carrier size and weight limits vary by airline.

They must be transported in a carrier that fits below the seat or on the shelf above. Large Pets: larger pets can travel on trains with a special pet fare, but they must be on a leash and wear a muzzle.

Your animal must be identified by an electronic transponder. You may have to bring your own microchip reader when you travel if your pet's microchip does not meet these standards. You must get your pet microchipped before, or at the same time as, their rabies vaccination.

France is known for being incredibly dog friendly, with the majority of trains, restaurants, and buses all allowing dogs. There are certain guidelines that must be followed when you're out and about, including always keeping your dog on a lead in public parks and gardens.

Dogs can be taken on all French trains. Small dogs (under 6Kg) placed in containers not exceeding 45cm x 30cm x 25cm pay no more than €5.10 per journey. Larger dogs muzzled and on leads pay half the 2nd class full fare (even travelling in 1st class).

Pets on Thalys trains With the exception of guide and assistance dogs, pets are not accepted on Thalys Snow and Sun trains as well as on connecting trains departing from or travelling to London. Small domestic animals (weighing fewer than 6 kilos) are permitted free of charge.

Any quantity of inflammable substances, including empty canisters e.g. petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners. Don't worry though, you can take nail polish and hairspray. Firelighters and lighter fuel. All flick knives, gravity knives and daggers.
