Can you walk around Fort Wilderness?

ON FOOT. Fort Wilderness is an absolutely amazing place to easily get in 20,000 steps a day – whether they be walking steps or running steps. Be forewarned – the journey can be quite long, depending on the starting place and destination.

Yes, walking is a popular and healthy way to explore Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, though you should prepare for the scale of the property. The resort is massive, and walking from the "Settlement" (near the boat launch to Magic Kingdom) to the "Outpost" (the main entrance) can take 30–40 minutes. There are wide, paved, and well-lit paths that are shared with bicycles and golf carts. For a more scenic stroll, you can take the wooded nature trails or walk through the various "loops" to see the elaborate decorations campers put up during Halloween and Christmas. If your legs get tired, the resort runs an internal bus system (Orange, Yellow, and Purple lines) that is free for guests. While walking is permitted, most guests find that renting a golf cart is the best way to navigate the property quickly, especially when carrying groceries or beach gear to the Meadow Trading Post.
