Do I need a Covid test to enter Tokyo?

Please see the Japan Customs website for details. Currently, there are no COVID-19 testing , proof of vaccination, or quarantine requirements to travel to Japan.

As of March 2026, you do not need a Covid-19 test to enter Tokyo or any other part of Japan. Japan officially lifted all Covid-related entry requirements, including proof of vaccination and pre-departure testing, in May 2023 when the government downgraded the virus's legal status. While the "Visit Japan Web" app is still used for digital Customs and Immigration declarations to speed up the process at Narita and Haneda airports, the health surveillance sections have been largely phased out. However, 2026 travelers should be aware that Japan remains a very health-conscious society; while not legally required, it is still common to see mask-wearing on public transport, and many businesses still provide hand sanitizer at entrances. If you show obvious symptoms of any respiratory illness upon arrival, quarantine officers still have the authority to perform a basic health check, but for the vast majority of travelers, entry into Tokyo is now back to pre-pandemic "normal" procedures.
