Do pillows fly free on Spirit?

As long as your pillow fits within these dimensions and does not exceed the size restrictions, you should be able to bring it with you on your Spirit Airlines flight. However, there are no charges for bringing a pillow.

On Spirit Airlines, a personal pillow is generally considered an extension of your attire or a comfort item and does not count against your baggage allowance, provided it is being carried or used. However, there is a catch: if you pack the pillow inside a bag, that bag must still meet the strict "Personal Item" dimensions (18 x 14 x 8 inches) to fly for free. If the pillow is so large that it requires its own separate tote or case, Spirit staff may attempt to classify that case as a second personal item or a carry-on, which triggers a significant fee. To ensure your pillow "flies free" without any hassle, many savvy Spirit travelers recommend wearing a travel neck pillow around their neck during boarding or using a "stuffed" pillowcase filled with clothes to save space in their primary bag, as the airline is famous for its "unbundled" pricing model where almost every extra service has a cost.

Wearing a neck pillow around your neck might be seen as clothing instead of luggage, but again, it depends on the airline.

Normally airlines allow people to take their own pillows on board as it's useful to have when sleeping and such. However this is just something they allow rather than being a right. So the airline might not allow it on board and in case of a “rather large” size they might make you send it to the cargo haul.

While most hotels use some kind of pillow protector, they're rarely sealed with protectors that keep out dust and microorganisms. This can mean that your hotel pillow isn't just home to your head – but also colonies of sneeze-inducing dust mites.

How to Use a Pillow on a Plane. If you're wondering how to sleep on a plane, the most common way is to wear a neck pillow. You'll want to slip it snugly around your neck and leave a gap in the front. While this does work, turning the pillow so that the gap is at the back provides a whole lot more comfort.
