That said, some ferries sell out, or require you to reserve a spot in advance (especially if you bring a vehicle). Tickets are often more expensive when purchased at the last minute, so by planning ahead and buying your tickets online you can likely save some money.
The Bainbridge Island ferry is a must if you are visiting Seattle. We went to the island for the day, had a wonderful lunch and wandered around downtown. It was a clear sunny day and we had a breath taking view of Mount Olympia (Olympus) from the ferry.
Your King County employee ID/ORCA card allows you to ride free on Kitsap Transit Foot Ferries (serving Port Orchard-Bremerton and Annapolis-Bremerton) and the Fast Ferry between Bremerton and Seattle.
Bremerton is good for a longer ride (an hour) and some good old fashioned military history (old war ship tour, free navy museum, etc).. Bainbridge island is quick and has more cutesy, artsy shops and stuffs. Bremerton is longer and ferries are less frequent.
We recommend arriving 45 minutes to one hour prior to your scheduled departure time. This allows for plenty of time for vehicles to get checked-in at the toll booth, and for foot passengers to check-in with the ticket counter inside the terminals.
