Do you sit in a hot air balloon?

Unfortunately, you aren't able to sit in a hot air balloon, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the blissful experience. Most balloon rides last between 45 minutes to 1 hour, so passengers must be able to stand for at least that long comfortably.

In almost all standard commercial hot air balloon flights, passengers are required to stand for the entire duration of the journey, which typically lasts about 60 to 90 minutes. The wicker baskets are designed for maximum strength and weight distribution, and they generally do not contain seats, chairs, or stools. Standing allows passengers to have a 360-degree view over the edge of the basket and helps with stability during the flight. Furthermore, the "landing position" is a critical safety maneuver where passengers must be able to bend their knees and hold onto internal handles to absorb the impact if the basket bumps or tips upon touching the ground. While a few specialized operators may offer "accessible" baskets with a small bench or seat for passengers with physical disabilities, these are rare and must be requested in advance; for the vast majority of fliers, the experience is strictly a standing-room-only affair.

Oxygen Use in Hot Air Ballooning Well, the same principle applies to hot air balloons. At around 10,000 feet (about 3,000 meters), the amount of oxygen in the air decreases enough to potentially affect passengers, leading to altitude sickness. Flights above 14,000 feet require that all passengers and pilots use oxygen.
