Do you still pay tourist tax in Majorca?

If you're heading to Ibiza or Majorca, you'll have to pay a tourist tax. The Sustainable Tourist Tax, which applies to holiday accommodation on Spain's Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera), also applies to each holidaymaker aged 16 or over.

Yes, you must still pay a tourist tax in Majorca, officially known as the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS). As of 2026, the tax applies to all visitors staying in any form of holiday accommodation, including hotels, apartments, villas, and even cruise ships. The rates vary depending on the category of your stay: guests in luxury 5-star and 4-star superior hotels pay €4 per person, per night, while mid-range 4-star and 3-star superior hotels charge €3. Cruise passengers and guests in lower-category apartments pay €2, and those in hostels or campsites pay €1. Children under the age of 16 are exempt from this charge. During the low season (November to April), the rates are typically reduced by 50%. The funds collected are specifically earmarked for environmental conservation, the improvement of tourism infrastructure, and the protection of the island's natural beauty. The tax is usually collected by the accommodation provider at check-in or check-out and cannot be prepaid as part of a package holiday.
