Walking is the primary mode of transportation inside Disney World, and guests should be prepared for significant physical exertion. On an average day, a guest will walk between 7 and 12 miles (11 to 19 kilometers). Epcot is notorious for being the most physically demanding park; a single lap around the World Showcase lagoon is approximately 1.2 miles, and that doesn't include the walk from the parking lot or the zig-zagging between attractions in the front of the park. Even at Magic Kingdom, the distances between "lands" add up quickly. In 2026, with the addition of new lands and expanded walkways, "Disney Feet" (soreness and swelling) is a common topic of discussion. It is highly recommended to wear broken-in athletic shoes and to consider a stroller for children as old as 6 or 7, as their small legs cannot maintain the 20,000+ step count typical of a Disney day. Staying at a "monorail" or "Skyliner" resort can reduce the total walking distance to and from the gates, but once inside, the only way to see the magic is on foot.
