Does Disney accept cash?

My money maven Scrooge McDuck and I are pleased to share that yes, cash is still accepted at most locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. This includes all four theme parks, Disney Resort Collection hotels, dining locations, and Disney Springs.



Yes, both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort continue to accept cash at nearly all physical locations, including ticket booths, merchandise shops, and sit-down restaurants. Despite the heavy push toward "Mobile Ordering" and contactless payments through the "MagicBand+" or the Disney app, cash remains a legal and accepted form of tender. However, the experience is becoming increasingly "cash-less" in terms of convenience. You cannot use cash for Mobile Food Ordering or for purchasing Lightning Lane passes within the app—those require a credit card, debit card, or Disney Gift Card. If you only have cash, you can visit a Guest Relations location or certain retail shops to purchase a Disney Gift Card with your cash, which can then be added to the app to use for mobile features. Additionally, while the parks have ATMs, they are becoming fewer in number. For the smoothest experience in 2026, it is recommended to keep a small amount of "emergency" cash while relying on a digital payment method for the majority of your daily park activities.

With the various non-cash payment options across all of Walt Disney World, some of you may be tempted to leave home without cash or your ATM card. While cash is an acceptable payment method for food and merchandise, I would suggest purchasing one or more Disney Gift Cards before you leave so that you will not have to keep up with any loose change. You can purchase a gift card from shopDisney and it can be delivered directly to your email!

My best recommendation would be to budget about $100.00 per day for expenditures (not including dining experiences). We've gone with less than this amount and more than this amount, and find that its a pretty good figure. We usually allocate this for drinks, souvenirs, ice cream/snacks in the parks and window shopping.

So, needless to say, because of Disney's attention to detail and mission to maintain a clean and safe park experience, maintaining their parks and property is an expensive endeavor. And that cost is passed on to you.
