Does Kings Island shut down in the rain?

What happens if it rains during my visit? Some attractions may close in inclement weather until conditions permit safe operation. Please enjoy a meal or shopping until such weather passes. Kings Island does not issue rain checks or refunds for inclement weather.

Kings Island does not shut down entirely for rain, but it does follow a strict, phased weather safety protocol that affects ride operations. In 2026, the park maintains its "StormReady" status, meaning they monitor lightning and wind speeds via sophisticated radar. Most rides continue to operate in light rain, but Phase 1 (suspension of tall rides like Diamondback, Banshee, and Orion) begins if lightning is detected within 15 miles. Phase 2 (suspension of all remaining outdoor coasters) occurs if lightning is within 10 miles. Indoor attractions like "Flight of Fear" and shops/restaurants typically remain open throughout most storms unless there is an extreme safety threat. If the park is forced to close early due to a total washout, guests may be eligible for a "Rain Check" ticket, but the park generally stays open as long as it is safe for staff and guests to remain on the midways.
