Does MSU have parking?

The Parking Office provides parking services to students, staff and visitors of Michigan State University. Parking Services is a self-supporting auxiliary that is not funded by state taxes or student tuition.

Visitors are directed to park and pay for their time at pay-by-plate lots or metered spaces. Parking rates are $2 per hour. Special events on campus may alter lot accessibility or fees. Please contact Parking Services for questions regarding specific events or lot restrictions.

It is recommended that visitors park at either lot 79, South of Spartan Stadium, or at lot 62 on the north side of the Stadium. These lots both allow all-day parking at a rate of approximately $2.00 per hour.

All vehicles, including mopeds, motorcycles and bicycles, operated or parked on MSU property by a MSU student, must be registered with the MSU Parking Office and bear a current and valid permit in accordance with the Student Parking and Driving Regulations.

Parking rates are $2 per hour. Pay stations accept credit/debit cards or cash/coin ($1s & $5s only). They do not give change back nor are refunds issued for time paid but not used. Unused parking time in one lot cannot be used in another. If you move, payment is required again in the new lot.

Student Storage parking is designed for students who bring their vehicles to campus, but do not need to use them frequently. Storage parking is available to all students, including freshmen and sophomores. Distribution is first come, first served.

On-Street Parking The rate is $1.25/hour with a $0.75 minimum payment for cards. You can also pay remotely with Parkmobile. Meters are enforced from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and most Sundays are free. Parking is not permitted between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Students who need to bring a car to campus but don't drive it on a daily basis will need to find “storage” parking (defined as leaving your vehicle continuously parked in a lot or structure for periods greater than 24 hours).

The Safe Ride program provides free, on-campus transportation from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., seven days a week, as a safe and accessible alternative for students traveling alone late at night.

The Student Semester Pass costs $50 and is good for the entire semester in which it is purchased. The Student Semester Pass can and should be linked to your Spartan Card. Linking your bus pass to your Spartan Card enables you to get 1 free replacement if your pass is lost or damaged.

General Public Parking: $30 public parking is offered in Ramp 1/Lot 51, Ramp 3/Lot 19, Ramp 5/Lot 102, Ramp 6/Lot 103 and in lots 7, 9, 46, 47, 53, and Cherry Lane south of Wilson Road (weather permitting). Payment can be made via cash or card at the entrance.
