Does the Swiss Travel Pass cover Zermatt?

It pays off to book your trip to Zermatt ahead of time. The Swiss Travel Pass gives you a discount on the regular price. With trains leaving for Zermatt every 30 minutes, the train journey from the Swiss airports and the border is a comfortable and straightforward one.

The Swiss Travel Pass provides comprehensive coverage for the journey to Zermatt, but it has specific limits once you arrive in the mountain village. Your pass covers the entire train ride from anywhere in Switzerland to the Zermatt station, including the scenic Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn from Visp. It also covers the local Zermatt shuttle buses. However, most of the high-altitude mountain excursions are not fully free. For 2026 travelers, the pass provides a 50% discount on the Gornergrat Railway and a 50% discount on the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable cars. A notable exception is the Glacier Express; while the "ticket" cost is fully covered by your Swiss Travel Pass, you are still required to pay a mandatory (and often expensive) seat reservation fee to board this world-famous panoramic train journey.
