Does Tower of Terror go sideways?

It is worth noting that this version of the Tower of Terror is the only one that moves both vertically and horizontally. The elevator actually moves through what's called the ?Fifth Dimension? scene, which is where the elevator really seems to enter the Twilight Zone.

Whether the Tower of Terror goes sideways depends entirely on which Disney park you are visiting. The original Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida is the only version that features a "horizontal" ride section. In this version, after the initial vertical ascent and some show scenes, the ride vehicle (an Automated Guided Vehicle or AGV) physically disconnects from the vertical lift and drives itself through the "Fifth Dimension" scene. It then locks into a different shaft for the drop sequence. This sideways movement is a marvel of 1990s engineering and is a core part of what makes the Orlando version unique. In contrast, the versions at Tokyo DisneySea, Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, and the former version at Disney California Adventure (now Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!) do not move sideways. These versions utilize a "single-shaft" system where the vehicle only moves vertically, with show scenes viewed as the elevator doors open at different floor levels. This makes the Orlando version significantly more complex and, for many fans, a more immersive experience.
