How did The Beast roller coaster get its name?

After hearing construction workers refer to building the coaster as a “beast of a project,” Kings Island's public relations manager at the time, Ruth Voss, approached park executives with the idea to name the ride The Beast. Everyone thinks of a beast as a large, frightening, unusual animal.

After more than three years of planning, design, and construction, The Beast opened to the public on April 14, 1979, the first day of Kings Island's 1979 operating season. At the time, The Beast was the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden roller coaster in the world.
