How do I add my Amtrak ticket to the Amtrak app?

By entering your reservation number, found in the upper right corner of the attached PDF, and the email [email protected], you can import your QR code and your reservation into the Amtrak app. You can do this with or without an Amtrak account. It will easily keep track of how many rides you have left.

Of course, the easiest way to score Amtrak points is to add your Guest Rewards account number to your booking information when purchasing train tickets. (There's a field for it in the passenger details section of the booking window.) Then all you need to do is watch the points add up.

If you received an eTicket, simply open it in the Amtrak mobile application, or print out another copy of the PDF document attached to your receipt email. If you had a paper value ticket, you will need to repurchase it at the ticket counter.

It is recommended, but not required, to print out an updated copy of your eTicket (or obtain a new copy from a ticket agent or an Amtrak kiosk) after you have modified your itinerary.

Amtrak points are worth more than most other reward currencies, with each point worth about 2.9c toward most train fares (or 2.56 on Acela fares). That means that the 40K offer on the Amtrak Rewards Preferred card will buy you well over $1,000 in train tickets (nearly $1200 on non-Acela service!).

If you board a train without a ticket the Amtrak conductor has the right to remove you. Some conductors will allow a passenger to purchase a ticket onboard using the app on their phone.
