You can check your balance (the amount left of the money you added by charging) at ticket vending machines, multifunctional ticket vending machines and charging machines in the Suica area. Your balance is also displayed on the ticket gate when you pass through.

In 2026, checking your Suica card balance is primarily done through your smartphone or at physical transit kiosks. If you use a physical card, you can download a NFC Reader app (such as "Suica Reader" or "Japan Train Card Balance Check") and simply tap the card against the back of your phone to see your balance and recent transaction history. If your Suica is integrated into your Apple Wallet or Google Pay, the balance is displayed in real-time within the wallet app. Alternatively, every JR East station features Ticket Vending Machines and "Automatic Fare Adjustment" machines; inserting your card or tapping it on the reader will display the remaining yen. You can also see your balance on the small screen of the ticket gate every time you tap in or out of a station.
