Unless you've found an Instant Book listing, you'll have to request that the Host accept your stay. At the Confirm and pay stage of your request, you'll need to include a brief message about why you're traveling and when you'll check-in.
What happens next? If you booked instantly, you're good to go. If you sent a request, your Host will typically respond within 24 hours. In the meantime, we may ask you to verify your identity—as this helps us to ensure the safety of our community.
To check it, either find the message thread with the Host in your inbox, or go to Trips and click or tap Show more trip plans, then Show details. A Confirmed status means you're good to go! You'll receive an email saying so, along with a text (SMS) and a push notification if you have those set up.
A few days before check-in, it's a good idea to remind guests about the details of their upcoming stay so they can start planning their arrival. You can send these messages up to 14 days ahead using the Before check-in action. You may want to restate the details you shared in your After booking message.
If a guest sends you an inquiry—a question, or any kind of message other than a reservation request—via Contact Host, you'll need to respond to the inquiry within 24 hours to maintain your response rate.
Before you book, a Host will only be shown your first name and identity verification status. Your full name and profile photo will be shared with the Host after your booking is confirmed.
Can an Airbnb host cancel my reservation? Unfortunately, yes. If a host decides to not host, don't cancel a stay yourself — even if they ask you to do so. Instead, fill out a cancellation request to comply with the platform's refund policy.
We'll automatically send any eligible refund to the payment method you used when you booked the reservation. Our Rebooking and Refund Policy can help cover situations when the listing or amenities are not what you expected. Refund requests of any amount should be handled through our Resolution Center.
While a hotel can easily move you to another room, if your Airbnb unit has an issue, the solution isn't as simple. You'll receive a refund which means that you'll need to find new accommodations at the last minute. Or Airbnb will try to find a comparable property to move you to.
Even if you follow all of our steps, there's no guarantee that you'll eliminate Airbnb spying. Hosts don't need hidden cameras and microphones to spy on you during your stay. They can monitor the Airbnb's WiFi network and snoop on your online activity.
