How do Lufthansa boarding groups work?

After pre-boarding, passengers in priority boarding groups 1 and 2 will start boarding. All other boarding groups will then be invited to board. Please note that all boarding groups will be called to board individually and in sequence.

Lufthansa uses a structured "Group Boarding" system to streamline the process at the gate. After Pre-boarding (reserved for families with small children under 5 and passengers with reduced mobility), the groups proceed as follows: Group 1 is for First Class and HON Circle members; Group 2 includes Business Class, Senators, and Star Alliance Gold members. For economy passengers on intercontinental flights, Group 3 is Premium Economy, followed by Group 4 (window seats), Group 5 (middle seats), and Group 6 (aisle seats). This "outside-in" method—boarding window seats before aisle seats—is designed to prevent passengers from having to stand up to let others in, thereby reducing congestion in the cabin. Your group number is clearly printed on your boarding pass, and at major hubs like Frankfurt and Munich, you can often use "Quick Boarding" automated turnstiles by scanning your pass yourself when your group is called.
